WEST GREENLAND KAYAK FROM THE 1600s (replica)
This kayak is in the collections of the Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde in Leiden, the Netherlands. I surveyed it in 1998, and its lines have been published in SeaKayaker Magazine (Oct. 2002:10-11) and in Kayaks of Greenland. This kayak measures 17'11-1/8" long, 15-1/4" wide, and 6-1/4" depth to sheer. I built this replica in 1998, but the on-the-water photos below were taken in 2005 at Whidbey Island.
