KOTZEBUE SOUND KAYAK ca. 1888:
Replica of the Mariners' Museum BU-05
Captain Michael A. Healy collected the original in Kotzebue Sound, 1888.
Length: 17'2", Beam: 18.0"
The lines of this kayak are published in "Kayaks of Alaska."
The Completed Frame. (2008)
Launching on June 14th, 2008, at Twanoh State Park, Hood Canal Washington-- for the South Sound Traditional
Inuit Kayak Symposium (SSTIKS). I wasn't the first to paddle this replica-- Bob Kelim took it out the day before.
This kayak is very maneuverable and feels quite fast. It is a tender kayak despite its flat-bottom.
