IVUJIVIK KAYAK, circa 1959 (replica)
Replica of the Ivujivik, kayak of ca. 1959, from Dr. Eugene Arima's"Notes on the Kayak and its Equipment at Ivuyivik, P.Q." (1963). The original is in the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Ottawa (IV-B-767). This replica is astoundingly fast and agile for its 24' length, 25" beam, and its weight of about 70-80#. It is presently (2004) in a state of disrepair; the frame is depicted below. I built it in 1998.
