Replica of a
Mittimatalik Kayak (North Baffin Island)
from ca. 1920s.
The original kayak was collected by the Fifth Thule Expedition in the early 1920s, and is now at the Danish National Museum (catalog number P.27.221). Length is 19'1-7/8" and beam is 24-15/16".
The dark and light areas on the replica emulate the original's skin covering, with alternating scraped (buff) and unscraped (blackish) seal skins.
