Replica of an Inupiaq Kayak from Bering Straits.
This is a replica of the American Museum of Natural History's
kayak ESK/0162, of unknown-provenance. The kayak measures
14'11-1/2" long and 22-11/16" wide.
Launch Day: 3-7-05, Firwood Lake. Quite a fast little kayak-- its parabolic-curved cross-sections give it a narrow
waterline and low wetted-surface area. Very comfortable and roomy; light at 28#. Not so agile, but easily controlled.
Should be a great touring kayak-- more swift and lively than my Kodiak single in which I've toured. The depth-to-sheer
is 8", so the sheer is quite low to the water, yet with an overall depth of 13-7/8", there is plenty of room inside
for either gear or a nap.
